Chornoby Made Training

I consider myself to be a talented trainer. And many individuals agree with this. A few helpful quotes about my training: ‘That was the best training I ever received in the Union.’ – Former Local Assistant Clerk Craft Director, DDAL. ‘That was the best training on Investigative Interviews ever presented in the APWU.’ – Current National Officer on the NEB. ‘As a business agent I shouldn’t ask this, but could I have your training flash drive? That was the best training I ever received in this Union.‘ – Former National Business Agent.

Those are a few, but not all, of the praises for the training I conduct. I have traveled to multiple Locals on my own time to train. I have been asked to go to multiple states and even US territories. When I go to a Local to train, I tailor the training to the Local itself. When I train individuals, I tailor the training to them individually. And when I train a broad group or class I cover advanced topics in basic terms, so anyone of any knowledge level can learn something.

This is the landing page for training I have made, presented, and shared that is not individual or locally specific. The links include some accompanying documentation, the PowerPoint, and a brief explanation.

Investigative Interview training, or I N T E R V I E W, is a solid 5 hours. It includes mock interview questions, an interview review, and active roleplay. This is the best basic training created on this website – it covers Procedural Due Process, Weingarten, and the Douglas Factors (To use as mitigation). There is no investigative or pre-disciplinary interview training with this many tools to win grievances in any labor union. This has several accompanying documents.

Negotiation Training, or B A R G A I N, is a comprehensive overview of how to negotiate grievances, and it takes about six hours (90+ Slides). This training boils down to a system of Negotiation based on multiple certifications (Such as from the University of Michigan), training programs, books, hundreds of negotiated settlements, and thousands of negotiated verbal agreements. This is the most substantial training available anywhere for labor unions, and it is advanced.

Due Process training is a 4-hour session and focuses on Legal Standards and Procedural Due Process. The training is mainly interactive. This training is Advanced but has been held multiple times and simplified to include more hands-on training. This training is largely obsolete after the completion of the Investigative Interview Training.

Past Practice is 3 to 4 hours, largely lectures with group input. The training covers the differences between Unilateral Action and Past Practice, historical examples and analysis, plus how to win a Past Practice Grievance. This basic training covers 99% of Past Practice situations/questions.

Training is updated periodically and will be updated here periodically. If you want an updated version, reach out. If you are interested in having me cover these, or any material for your office / local, contact me at chornoby@apwu480.com
